Beautiful Creatures – the movie

Okay, so here’s my rant-y Beautiful Creatures movie post, as promised. It’s a day late because yesterday Audrey was a HUGE fuss bucket, and I had a migraine. I’ll not post huge spoilers. Actually i’ll try to not post any, but littles things are going to show up because this is a rant! So if you don’t want to know a single detail about the movie, you should probably stop reading now =)
I LOVE Viola Davis. Love her. I guess I always pictured Amma to be older, and not dress so snazzy. Yeah, I know they combined Amma and Marian. That didn’t bother me. It’s the fact that they made her so NOT Amma. She didn’t cook. (ETHAN cooked; that would never happen.) There were no crossword puzzles. And she cussed. I’m just disappointed that the integrity of the character was lost.
I think Emmy Rossum did a good job portraying Ridley. I just wish she’d looked more like Ridley should. There’s not long, blonde hair and no freakin’ LOLLIPOP!! She had something, but kept spitting it out, so…yeah that was weird.
Pretty much a bland character. There just wasn’t time to do anything with him, which is super sad because I loved him! I really wanted to hear the Holy Rollers play at Lena’s party. haha
Now, on to what I DID like:
Lena and Ethan.
Seriously, Alice Englert was PERFECT as Lena. So cute. I think she brought out Lena’s feelings quite well. Alden Ehrenreich was SO ADORABLE!  At times his accent was a little over the top, but it was super charming. Very upbeat like Ethan, very polite and even awkward like a 16 year old should be (but not in a KStew kind of way).
Jeremy Irons.
He did an amazing job as Macon. EXACTLY what I always pictured. Very snobby and elegant. Although there were a few times I had to snicker because he sounded a wee bit drunk.
Overall I think it should have been more of an ‘inspired by the book’ kind of movie. So much was rearranged and rewritten, it almost feels like a different story. Now, should you go see it? Sure! You could have a completely different reaction. I can get very attached to stories and characters, and to see that fleshed out on the big screen can be a dream (or nightmare. Helloooo, Twilight!).
If I had never read the book… I would have probably loved it. I went with two people who hadn’t read it and they loved it. They said it was a little confusing, and I have to agree with them. It seemed a little messy; too cut up and thrown together. I went in knowing a lot of things were changed, and I understand that’s what has to happen, especially to make a book this long in to an hour and a half movie… but it was super obvious. I’ll probably still buy it when it comes out on DVD. It was a million times better than the Twilight movies, and I have them hahaha. We’ll call it a guilty pleasure.
Those of you who HAVE seen the movie, what did you think? Let’s just get it all out, group therapy-style!

Notice anything different? čśë

HEY GUYS! Nice to see you again! I hope you’re all doing well.
So a few weeks ago I asked the talented Evie if she would create a new header for me. I’d had the old one since The Violet Hour began, and with all the new changes in my life, I felt like it needed something really snazzy. SHE’S AMAZING! I sent her my idea, and she totally knocked it out of the park!
I’m going to try my best to start posting reviews again, but my style is going to change. Gone are the days where I could spend an hour writing a review, searching my soul for the perfect words in a long review. HA! That’s not really conducive to having a six month old daughter čśë So I will be rockin’ the mini-reviews. Still my honest, blunt and heartfelt opinion on a book, just a shorter version.
I am going to be participating in the Mundie Moms Clockwork Prince read-a-long to get ready for the Clockwork Princess release! I had actually planned to reread both Clockwork Angel and CP, so I may be a day or two behind, but I’ll catch up quickly. Wanna join us? Click this link to go to the sign up page. There’s also a pretty freaking awesome giveaway happening, as well!
So what do you think of our new look? I’m pretty much IN LOVE! It’s perfect and was exactly what I was after. Thank you so much, Evie!! =)
