Review – Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Kindle editionPublished September 19, 2011by Spencer Hill PressSource: Provided by publisher for an honest reviewJennifer’s websiteGoodreadsThe Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.
Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.
Unfortunately, she’s crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn’t her biggest problem–staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden.
And that would kind of suck.
I fell in love with this series from the middle of the novella prequel, DAIMON. I immediately contacted the publisher to request HALF-BLOOD because I knew how awesome it was going to be. And I was so not wrong! I read HALF-B LOOD in less than twenty-four hours, staying up until 2 am to finish. Yeah. It’s that good.
Jennifer Armentrout just seems to speak my language. It’s like she and I (and characters) are old friends, and her writing style makes falling into the story simply effortless. I absolutely love Alex. She’s tough, feisty and rebellious. I felt like I was going through training with her, minus the pain from all the hits and kicks from her instructor, Aiden. I loved Aiden, too. It started when he stood up for Alex and saved her from immediate slavery to the pures, and continued as their relationship evolved. He is a constant source of security as Alex trained, fought and had her world rocked. The story itself holds a steady pace, then really kicks into high gear and doesn’t stop until the very end.
The plot twists in this story were ridiculous (in a good way!). I remember even covering my mouth at one point and saying “Ohhh no….”. That hardly ever happens! You do not want to miss this series. I can’t stress that enough. Jennifer Armentrout is a fabulous author that knows exactly what she’s doing. Keep your eye on this one!
The next book in the Covenant series is titled PURE, and the expected publication is April 2012 by Spencer Hill Press. I WANT IT!
