“Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she’s losing hope.

Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.

Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.”

Slammed was my intro to Colleen Hoover’s awesomeness. I had a few bloggers friends who LOVED her, so when I saw this one at my local library I decided to give it a go. I am so glad I did! Her writing is so addicting.

As I got a few chapters in and learned about the MCs, I had an idea of what the ‘dun dun DUUUN!’  was going to be. I thought i had it all figured out, and… I was wrong. Gladly so! Slammed was an easy read that surprised me with an unforeseen twist.

This book worked it’s way into my heart with the story of people learning to LIVE. I love the concept of slam poetry, and loved the way Hoover built this world around it. She also incorporated my FAVORITE BAND IN THE WORLD. This is another reason I connected with Slammed so well. The Avett Brothers are already such a part of my life and their lyrics have spoken to me so much over the years that I felt like Lakyn and I were good friends. The lyrics Hoover chose to begin each chapter were perfect. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book, and the rest of Colleen Hoover’s work.
