In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.

After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as “normal” as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he’s forbidden to see her again.

But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, “normal” simply isn’t to be. For Ethan’s nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan’s and Keirran’s fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan’s next choice may decide the fate of them all.”
I thoroughly enjoyed jumping back into this world with Julie Kagawa, Ethan and the rest of the crew in The Iron Traitor. It was an amazing follow-up to The Lost Prince. As always, Kagawa’s flawless writing style helped me fall right back into the story. The two characters that stand out to me are Ethan and Kierran. The ‘uncle and nephew are the same age’ thing is a little odd, but what’s more is the prophecy that Ethan knows about, but Kierran doesn’t. I really love this aspect of the story.
It’s official. I loved Ethan. He’s grown so much as a character, just like Meghan did. I love how grumpy he is. And it’s not without warrant. Ethan has tried his best to hide from the Fey; keep his head down, ignore them – all while hating them for taking away his sister. I was super pleased that we got to see a little interaction between Ethan and Meghan here. I’m still longing for one big knock-down, drag-out fight/heart to heart, though. Ethan adored her as a child, and even though he won’t admit it, he still does. There’s just so much hurt between them that the mother in me wants them to kiss and make up. Kierran is becoming pretty swoon-worthy to me, just like his father was. He is hellbent on doing whatever it takes to keep Anwyll from Fading. He’s an idiot, but he’s doing the only thing he can think of to help the girl he loves. It’s noble and sweet and stupid. The price is too high, but he cares only for her welfare. *swoon*
Although Julie’s original Iron Fey series will always be my favorite (come on, the Ash-Meghan-Puck triangle of sorts is legendary!), the Call of the Forgotten is an amazing addition to the Iron Fey legacy. Julie Kagawa never disappoints.
